    Annie Fest In Boston

    March 26th, 2006 by Spokeswoman

Spokeswoman Productions just returned from a whirlwind production weekend in Boston. We brought along our Director of Photography, Mike Rogers (Mike, from now on…) to film the events of this Annie intensive weekend. The first very exciting event was on Saturday morning, when we interviewed Mary Goldiner, Annie’s grandaughter. If ever there was a time to communicate with the dead, this was it! Not only is she Annie’s only living descendent, but Mary is also the only person alive who can provide a first person account of what Annie was like. Mary was a fountain of insight, and in her we certainly saw glimmers of Annie’s infectious and charismatic personality.
Spokewoman also attended an evening of Annie at the home of Peter Zheutlin and Judy Gelman. It was a great night, and the small crowd (which included our advisors Nancy Cott, David Herlihy, and Ross Petty) was treated to a slide show straight out of the 19th century. Peter used an old school slide projector to give a slide show that no one has seen for over 110 years! He showed the glass lantern slides that Annie purchased when she traveled across Asia and the Middle East in 1895. To see some of these amazing pictures, check out Peter’s website. Following the slideshow, Spokeswoman premiered our demo to a captive audience.

We also shot a few hours of B-roll in Walpole, Mass. Ironically, when Annie passed through Walpole on her debut ride from the Boston State House to Providence, she passed RIGHT by the house of Spokeswoman Meghan Shea. While the town has certainly changed quite a bit over the past century, we shot some authentic-looking drive-bys of Victorian houses and city hall. The footage turned out really well, and there will be more to come in August… Day 1 of the RIDE 2006 (August 12) will be spent in Walpole, and we will hopefully be holding our first evening fundraiser on the town common. If you’re from the area, mark your calendars and plan on joining the festivities.
